After enjoying my last day at Kew Gardens so much, I signed up as a member and planned to visit again. I happened to be in London last week for an appointment at the passport office, so I took the opportunity and jumped on the tube over to Kew.
When I first arrived I went for a long walk to the other side of the gardens that I hadn’t visited last time - the Japanese garden, the woodland walk, the cottage grounds - it was all beautiful (and I got a lot of steps in!)
Of course, I took my sketchbook along and drew some more of my favourite plants. I used coloured pencil a fair bit more this time, trying to capture the colours as well as the shapes (partly as last time I got back and tried to develop an illustration from one of my sketches, and I could not work out what colour part of it should be!)
Obviously now that I’m a member, I’ll be revisiting much more often. I hope to go most months so that I can see the gardens develop throughout the year. I walked through large areas where “there’s nothing here” but spotted lots of tiny buds that will be in bloom next time I visit, so the whole place will feel completely different.
